Careers Education
At Hurst Lodge School, we are committed to preparing our students for life beyond school by delivering a high-quality and well-rounded programme of activities across the school, including Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG). We believe that every student should be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to make informed decisions about their future pathways.
Our Vision
Our aim is to inspire ambition and support every student in achieving their full potential, whether that be through further education, apprenticeships, vocational training or entering the world of work. We strive to ensure students understand the full range of opportunities available to them and can plan a successful and fulfilling career.
Our Careers Programme
Woodlands Campus
At Woodlands we focus on developing life skills of the students and encouraging high aspirations. We aim to expose them to a range of careers through trips and visits and meeting people out in the workplace.
We have an annual Careers Day where students will meet a number of people in different occupations who visit the school to carry out talks and workshops.
Yateley Campus
Our comprehensive careers programme is delivered from Year 7 through to when they leave us at the end of Year11 or Sixth Form. Our programme is guided by the Gatsby Benchmarks and aligned with the DfE’s Careers Strategy. We regularly review and update our programme using student voice, staff feedback, and predicted destinations to ensure it remains relevant, inspiring, and supports students in making informed decisions about their future. The programme includes:
Careers enrichment lessons and mentor sessions tailored to each year group
Individual careers guidance interviews with a qualified careers advisor by the age of 16
Employer encounters and workplace experiences
University and college visits, taster sessions and workshops
Apprenticeship and vocational pathway information
Support with CV writing, interview skills and applications
Information on labour market trends and skills for the future
All students will have access to our annual Careers Fair and opportunities to hear from employers in our guest speaker sessions.
