Student Dress Code

At Hurst Lodge, we want students to feel comfortable, confident and ready to learn. We do not operate a traditional school uniform policy; however, all students are expected to dress in a way that reflects our values and supports a positive, respectful and purposeful learning environment.

Clothing should be practical, comfortable and appropriate for the activities of the school day. We recognise that clothing can fit different individuals differently and that some students may have sensory, medical or other needs that influence their clothing choices. Decisions regarding suitability will therefore be based on whether clothing is appropriate for a school environment, rather than on an individual’s body shape, size, gender or appearance. This approach applies across all settings.

We recognise that some students may require reasonable adjustments to clothing or footwear expectations due to sensory needs, medical requirements or other individual circumstances. The school will work with students and families to ensure that clothing choices support both individual needs and participation in school life.

Woodlands

Our school uniform supplier is: Direct Clothing.

Students may wear their own clothing; however, every student must have:

  • A Hurst Lodge School hoody
  • Students may choose to wear a Hurst Lodge School polo shirt for warmer days when school trips fall.

When choosing clothing for school, please ensure that:

  • Clothing is comfortable, practical and appropriate for a school environment
  • Large logos, slogans or prominent graphics are not worn
  • Small brand logos are acceptable
  • Midriffs, chest areas and underwear are covered
  • Shorts, skirts and dresses are of a suitable length for active participation in school life
  • Clothing is not deliberately ripped or torn
  • Footwear is safe and suitable for a full school day
  • Crocs may be worn where appropriate, with the heel strap secured.

Physical Education

For days that students have PE, they must wear into school:

A t-shirt (this may be the Hurst Lodge polo shirt)

Shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms

Suitable trainers

Educational Visits

For all school trips, students must wear a school logo polo shirt and/or school hoody.

Yateley Campus (Years 7 to 11)

Students may purchase and wear Hurst Lodge branded clothing through our uniform supplier: Direct Clothing. The purchase of school-branded uniform is encouraged but not compulsory.

Students may wear their own clothes provided they are appropriate for the school environment. Clothing should:

Be clean, safe and appropriate for the school day.

Allow students to participate fully in lessons and activitiesCover the torso, chest area and underwear at all times

Be of a length and fit that provides appropriate coverage when sitting, standing, bending or participating in school activities

Avoid excessively revealing styles

Not contain offensive language, inappropriate images or slogans

Not feature large logos or excessive branding (small brand logos are acceptable)

Not be deliberately ripped or torn

Footwear should be practical, safe and suitable for moving around school throughout the day. Crocs may be worn where appropriate, with the heel strap secured. Adaptations may be made to meet individual student needs.

The principal, or a member of staff delegated by the principal, will contact families to request appropriate clothing. Where this is not possible, the school will provide clean, plain clothing items.

Physical Education

Students have core PE lessons and should arrive prepared to take part fully.

Students may:

Wear their PE kit to school on PE days

Remain in their PE kit for the rest of the school day if they wish

Students are encouraged to bring a change of clothes, particularly during wet weather or after activities that may leave clothing muddy or sweaty.

PE clothing should include:

Appropriate sports clothing

Trainers suitable for physical activity

Students should not wear, unless discussed with their PE teacher:

Crocs

Flip-flops

Sliders

Any other open-toed or open-heeled footwear

During wetter months, students should bring footwear with plastic or rubber studs for outdoor activities on the field, where conditions can be slippery.

All jewellery must be removed before participating in PE activities. This can be done at the start of the lesson.

 Educational Visits

For all school trips, students must wear either a school logo polo shirt, a school hoody, a school lanyard, or a school name badge to ensure they can be readily identified as members of the school.

Sixth Form

Sixth Form students enjoy greater independence in preparing for adult life and future education or employment. With this increased independence comes responsibility for making appropriate choices about dress. Students may wear either Hurst Lodge branded clothing or their own clothing.

While uniform is not required in Sixth Form, all clothing must be appropriate for a school environment. Students are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

Clothing should be comfortable, practical and suitable for the school day

No clothing with offensive language, inappropriate images or large slogans

Midriffs, chest areas and underwear must be covered

Skirts, shorts and dresses should be of a suitable length for learning and movement around school

Clothing should not be deliberately ripped or torn

Footwear must be safe and suitable for the school environment

Crocs may be worn where appropriate, with the heel strap secured

Students should bring a coat or jacket during colder or wetter weather

Students participating in PE, sport or enrichment activities should bring suitable trainers and clothing for those activities.
